Hello everyone!

A message to my Westview Families:  If you would like to post general comments on this site – certainly feel free!  However, I ask that you do not  mention your child’s name.  Also, please save questions or comments specifically about your child for me personally via a phone call at school or email me at school.  Thanks,  Jill

A message to all other visitors:  I would love to hear any success stories, ideas you would like to share, and feedback about strategies you have used to teach Social Thinking!  Lets all keep up our great work!  Jill

Your brain filter is a great graphic. I really like your creations…I have a self contained classroom in a Minneapolis HS. Sometimes I have to modify for age…but I love using your stuff in social skills class. Thanks for making great stuff and being willing to share.
P.S. I live in dist 196 and my wife works there and daughter attends there. I am proud to be able to hold you up as an example of the great teaching professionals we have in the south metro!

  3. Hi Jill!

Thank you so much for such a wonderful workshop this past Friday in Timonium. You had so much amazing information to share – I hope I digested it all:) I have already used one of the goals/objectives in revising a student’s IEP. Thanks again!

    Sincerely,
    Laura

  4. Hi Jill,
What an AWESOME job you’ve done creating your visuals! I’ve only read through the Perspective Taking Skills and can see how I could use these with my students. Four of us (SLP, Deaf Educator, School Psychologist, Special Education teacher) from my school have written a grant to provide a Teen Issues Plus class that deals with social skills, for students with HI, as well as students with Aspergers. Would it be possible to use some of your visuals in our class?

  5. Jill. I love your social thinking weblog. I would really love to see the teaching ideas pages lableled at the top so they could be easily refered to. I can never remember if Im in the perspective taking teaching idea or conversation teaching ideas sections. Thanks for all these wonderful resources!

  6. Hi Jill,
I am looking for adapted materials for the D.A.R.E. program that is taught by a policeman to 5th graders (drug resistance ed.) Our student has autism and only is included for hands-on-science. The class is too much lecture for him. Before I set out creating materials myself I was wondering if you or anyone knew of materials on this topic someone may have already created? If possible I would prefer not reinventing the wheel…
    Thank you!

  7. You have such a helpful website, and we have borrowed some great ideas from it! We are having an issue with some of our younger kids finding the Unthinkables to be much more compelling role models than Superflex – has anyone else had this issue, and any good strategies? Thanks!

  8. I have recently learned of the test “Language Use Inventory” to evaluate pragmatic skills in students from 18-47 months. Does anyone have experience with this tool and/or any feedback about the tool?

    Thanks!

  9. Jill, thanks for training last week in Dover DE…just wanted you to know the speech path I work with is already using the thinking and talking bubbles and she picked up 5 Against the Law and I will be using this to review some recent infractions w/ a student where we work in DE. Appreciate all your help and particularly your videos which provide some great examples of social skills training.

  10. Hello-
I enjoy your Learning from Losing a Game story. We replicated it (giving you credit of course, and ‘aged up’ the pictures to use with some older students. would you like a copy?

  11. Hi Jill. This blog has been a real find for me! I am a speech-language therapist and I have a case with a child who is really struggling with Social Language. I have been trying to use your resources, but she is extremely defiant and will kick up a tantrum or threaten me the minute I introduce anything regarding the self, feelings or expressions. The closest I have got is to get her to make ONE play dough smiley face….any advice???

  12. I really like your site. You have a lot of resources I do not have on my site so will be happy to place you on my bog roll. Thank you for your generous sharing also. It is so nice to see fresh perspectives from another SLP.

  13. HI Jill-

  14. Jill your website is FABULOUS! I am a SLP from Tucson AZ and I thoroughly enjoy all of the content on your page. I wondered if you might be able to add a few things. Not like you aren’t busy :) . Sometimes I wondered how you used some of the wonderful things you have created. Perhaps when you post some of them you could give some ideas? Also I have a droid for Apps and I would love to know if you or any of your other speechie friends know of great droid apps?

Thanks for assisting all of us out here! I know I appreciate any help I can get!

  15. Hi Jill! I’m excited to have found your site :) It looks like a great resource for parents and teachers with Asperger’s. As someone with Asperger’s myself, I love it when more resources get put out there to help people deal with the challenges of being an Aspie.

I actually wanted to let you know about my own site, http://www.improveyoursocialskills.com. When I was diagnosed ten years ago, I dedicated myself to studying social skills. A year ago, I decided to write down what I had learned to help others as well. Improve Your Social Skills is the product of many, many hours of work and study, and it has over 50 lessons to help people learn social skills. Perhaps you would consider including it on your website as one of your featured “Great websites and resources”? :)

  16. I found your blog through Pinterest and I LOVE IT!! This is the first blog that I have subscribed to – it is that good! I teach a K – 2 Autism class (which I love!!) and we use the Superflex Social Thinking curriculum. I just downloaded a bunch of your fantastic printables for that as well as some of the other emotion awareness things. I am so happy about finding these things! Can’t wait to share this blog with our SLP and OT who work with my students. Thanks for your blog and keep up the good work!

  17. Hi Jill! I love your site and presentations! You are very talented. I was wondering if you or anyone had a social story for dealing with unexpected events?

    Thank you so much!

  18. Do you have any resources for helping kids with Asperger’s practice interpreting non-verbal social cues and/or tone of voice? I’m also interested in finding some role playing social scenarios for practicing picking up on social cues from peers.

Great website. I’m a behavior specialist and I have been using many of these resources on a regular basis!

  19. Jill – Perfect timing with the “Change” post. I was just starting to create a lesson focusing on that very topic for my social thinking groups. Thanks for sharing! The SLP at my school and I are writing a blog about collaborative work that we do in the elementary setting. I’d love to include your blog on a list of the “Blogs We Love” if that is ok with you. You can find our blog at http://www.speech-specialed.blogspot.com. Just shoot us an email and let us know if we can include you. speech.specialed@gmail.com. Thanks! Kelley Hively

  20. I ran across your site a number of years ago and loved everything you have developed, especially the pages to go with Michelle Garcia-Winners materials. I think about doing all the things you seem to be able to do but 10 times better. Not sure where you get the time but you are who I want to be. :)

  21. I have reviewed some of your posts and I really enjoy your site!
On my own site, AutismTeachingStrategies.com, I am following your same procedure of posting lots of practical, ready-to-use autism social skill lessons and downloads for SLP’s, professionals and parents. I invite your followers to visit my Facebook, which lists my free social skills posts and guides them into the site: http://on.fb.me/zdzqrT I look forward to returning to your excellent, user-friendly site.

    • WOW!!!!! What a cool honor!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this WONDERFUL acknowledgement! I would LOVE a badge to put on my site! THank you so very much! – Jill

  22. Hi Jill!! Your comment on my blog absolutely made my day today! I absolutely LOVE all your incredible, creative ideas for therapy and can’t wait to share them with my fellow grad students at UW. As soon as I find 10 minutes to add a blogroll to my blog, I will get you on it (time, these days, is not on my side)! In the meantime, can’t wait to see what you come up with next!!!!! -Hanna

  23. Hello,
I just happened across your site, and it seems like you are doing some interesting work. I recently read a related article in the New York Times about the Blue School, which seems to share with you an ideology regarding the importance for children of having a linguistic foundation to discuss emotions. I am in no way associated with the school, but as an interested seeker-of-knowledge I thought you too might find it a worthwhile read!

    the article is here:
